Uses: It is a useful instrument for thoracic surgeons in particular.  Most commonly it is used in pneumonectomy (the surgical procedure in which the lung is removed). Clamping the bronchus results in collapsing of the lung, thus enabling the surgeon to manipulate and remove the lung tissue.
